There have been claims that my Labradors are kept in small spaces. In reality, at night they sleep in crates, inside the home, or even on the bed. During the day, when I am in Central California, they have 200 acres of clean, lush green grass where they are free to run. When I am in Washington, they enjoy 20 acres with 1,200-square-foot turnouts, including swimming pools for exercise and enrichment.
There have also been claims that I do not health test as thoroughly as other breeders. On the contrary, veterinary teaching universities have educated me that the best clearances for hips and elbows are obtained through IDEXX and/or PennHIP rather than OFA. Regarding DNA testing, I have consistently kept up with the most current Labrador panel as new tests have been added over the years. Additionally, due to the epidemic of Copper Toxicosis, all of my dogs are tested and cleared for this condition.
There have even been claims of animal abuse. While no formal accusations or directions have ever been made toward me, I did take action in one case where I pursued an adopter for animal abuse and successfully brought the male Labrador back into my care. I always follow up on my Labs after they are placed in their new homes to ensure their continued well-being.
